Old Hyndhope Cottage has one of the very loveliest situations in the Scottish Border countryside with wonderful sweeping views of the Ettrick Valley all around.

Hyndhope Estate is just two miles south of the village of Ettrickbridge (with pub/bar meals) bordering the B7009 which runs from Selkirk (9 miles) in the central Borders down to Langholm (38 miles) in Dumfriesshire. The cottage stands fairly high itself, but has car access to the door.
Old Hyndhope has long had a band of devoted admirers who return here year after year. They (and those coming for the first time) find that the house has become even more attractive with landscaped outside areas.
The sitting room is kept cosy by the open fire, with plenty of comfortable seating and a door out to the stunning conservatory dining room that affords glorious views out on three sides. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, with all the appliances that you may need.
The accommodation is versatile as well as comfortable, enhanced by new double glazing and oil central heating. There is a double and a single bedroom downstairs, which are ideal for less mobile guests, as is the family bathroom that has a bath with shower over.
Upstairs is a further double and twin bedroom and all of the bedrooms are most attractively furnished. Taller guests are advised that the ceiling in the upstairs double bedroom is very low.
Outside is a fully enclosed, gravelled garden with a paved seating area (with furniture) that has beautiful expansive views across the valley to sit and admire. The caretakers have also sown a wild flower meadow in the land immediately opposite Old Hyndhope, which becomes a riot of beautiful colours in late spring and summer.
It's small wonder that Old Hyndhope has such a following! It is ideally situated with walks radiating in all directions and no disturbance except from visiting sheep, birds and the occasional deer.
Walking from the cottage right out into the hills or cycling the peaceful roads are favourite pastimes of visitors to Old Hyndhope. Many take the drive from Ettrickbridge over ‘The Swire’ to the Yarrow Valley and on to St Mary’s Loch, where there are lovely picnic spots and facilities for sailing and wind surfing.
You can continue from Cappercleuch by Megget Water, with spectacular views of the Tala Reservoir to Tweedsmuir. There are riding stables and a golf course at Ashkirk and another course at Selkirk, where there is also a swimming pool.
The quiet Border roads offer easy access to many places of interest - stately homes, castles (ruined or otherwise), the pretty Borders towns and even a day in Edinburgh which is just under an hour's drive away or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (14.5 miles). That is if you can bear to tear yourself away from this heavenly spot!
Salmon fishing on the River Ettrick can usually be arranged with the owner or the Buccleuch Estates and trout fishing (fly only) in stocked Lochs can be arranged with the owner.
