The pretty village of Garelochhead sits, as its name suggests, right at the head of the beautiful Gare Loch at the top of the Rosneath peninsula in Argyll with wonderful views out over the water.
There is a choice of eateries to try out in the village or in picturesque Helensburgh that is just 15 minutes’ drive away. From Garelochhead train station there is easy access to Oban in just over 2 hours and even Glasgow and Fort William for those wishing to venture a bit further afield.
Those of a green fingered persuasion will love the various gardens there are to visit nearby that benefit from the warming effects of the Gulf Stream, making the perfect conditions for growing exotic plants. Linn Botanic Gardens near Cove has 4,000 different species of plants including lots of rare specimens and Glenarn Gardens at Rhu has a particularly pretty collection of colourful rhododendrons.
