With an expansive vista of Loch nan Lochan spread out right in front it, Lochans Cottage occupies an idyllic setting in the midst of glorious Glenmoidart, near Acharacle (8.5 miles) and the stunningly beautiful Ardnamurchan peninsula.

Situated off a private estate road serving two further properties, this is a place to disengage from the hustle and bustle of daily life and experience a real, traditional rural hideaway surrounded by spectacular scenery around every corner. In the charming sitting room the wood-burning stove creates an inviting cosiness and the outlook of the loch and mountains beyond from the large windows really are the perfect holiday backdrop.
The kitchen is equipped with everything required and more of those lovely views of the water can’t help but catch everyone’s attention from the dining room table at meal times. A double bedroom, twin room and family bathroom complete the indoor accommodation and, as the house is laid out all on the ground floor, there are no stairs to worry about once inside (there are 7 steps up to the front door with hand rails).
Outdoor seating by the door has been positioned to make the most of the ever-changing scene as the light dances on the water. The garden trails off towards the loch and there are some steep slopes behind the house so care should be taken.
Lochans’ sister property Rock Cottage, set less than a quarter of a mile down the road, accommodates four additional guests so it is great for two families to holiday together but still have their own space to return to at the end of the day. The house is set down a rough track that should be driven slowly and carefully.
Please note:The garden area at Lochans Cottage is unfenced and the loch is just 50 metres away. Please supervise children and pets at all times.
The opportunities for walking off out into the surrounding countryside are virtually endless. Fascinating wildlife can be spotted all around with deer, red squirrels, buzzards, eagles and even the often elusive pine martens that can be tempted to pay a visit with their favourite tasty treat of peanut butter sandwiches.
At the top of Loch Shiel the little village of Acharacle (8.5 miles) has a shop and a hotel restaurant where lots of fresh, local ingredients can be sampled with seafood being a particular speciality, unsurprisingly given its lochside location.
Nearby Castle Tioram (10 miles) is a 13th century fortress that sits out on a tidal island in Loch Moidart with a sandy causeway that provides access during low tide. It is not possible to go inside the castle but it is still incredibly impressive when taken in from either the shoreline or the causeway.
Day trips to the beach are a must no matter what the weather and luckily there are plenty of fine examples to choose from in easy reach nearby. The gorgeous silver sands of Arisaig (27 miles) just beg to be explored and the singing sands of Kentra Bay (10 miles) undoubtedly need to be seen and heard in person. As a gentle breeze blows through the sand it creates an unusual and very charming ‘song’.
There is the chance to head over to see the sights of the Isle of Skye by ferry ride from Mallaig (31 miles) which takes about 30 minutes, or from Kilchoan (30 miles) it is a short ferry hop over to the wonderful Isle of Mull. It is well worth popping over to scenic Fort William (42 mile) about an hour’s drive away to see the mighty Ben Nevis that towers above the town or sample some delicious drams at the Ben Nevis Distillery.
