Shielside has been refurbished to create a large, comfortable holiday home featuring spacious, warm and comfortable rooms with windows showcasing brilliant views of the Ardnamurchan countryside.
Guests enter immediately into a utility space, perfect for storing boots and coats after outdoor adventures, then through to the laundry facilities and handy downstairs WC. The extremely well-equipped kitchen is a joy to cook in, alongside the breakfast island and dining table, both of which provide plenty of seating for many hours to spend quality time together. Further seating can be found through the French doors to the covered outside sitooterie taking in the Ardnamurchan countryside.
The lounge space features a wood burner set in the centre of the room, maximising cosiness, with comfortable seating surrounding it. The house is thoughtfully decorated throughout. There’s a handy addition of a small lift for those with limited ability, which can be enabled upon request. French doors lead out to the enclosed garden area, where guests can let pets roam.
The property sleeps up to 8 guests in four spacious bedrooms. The first bedroom is found past the stairs, adjacent to the French doors. Three more double bedrooms are found upstairs, one being a family room with an extra single bed. Each bedroom has its own individual colour palette and style. The bedrooms are also all equipped with en-suites with a shower (one with an added bath) and Velux or large picture windows, showcasing the majestic landscapes. The cosy landing area upstairs has provided bean bags and other seating to enjoy vistas and lounge with your loved ones.
On warmer evenings, use the provided barbecue and dine alfresco in the covered sitooterie. Ample parking is available outside Shielside.
Shielside’s location, adjacent to the River Shiel near both Loch Shiel and Loch Sunart, just 4 miles from the sandy coast at Ardtoe Beach, means many opportunities for lochside and water-based adventures.
Just 3 miles away is the Salen Jetty for boat trips and wildlife spotting on nearby Loch Sunart, where there’s the chance to spot dolphins, seals, white-tailed sea eagles, porpoises and many more. The loch also holds Viking history, where they had sheltered bays for long boats and Iron Age hill forts.
Climb the small hill in Acharacle, Tom Mor for brilliant views North-East up Loch Shiel to Carn na Nathrach, Drum Farbh and the summit of Ben Nevis. Also nearby, just 3 miles, Castle Tioram, located on the shores of Loch Moidart, boasts medieval history and astonishing scenery.
The local amenities of Acharacle are just a 10-minute walk down the road. There are plenty of eateries like East to West Bakery for both sit-in and takeaway treats, Fika Coffee, also in Acharacle, serving delicious food and sweet treats. For finer dining, Mingarry Park Restaurant (1.6 miles) has an extraordinary Scottish menu.
Further out, you will find Singing Sands and Kentra Bay beaches, 5 miles from the property. Nature lovers can visit the Garbh Eilean Wildlife Hide, less than 7 miles away, or the RSPB Reserve in Glenborrodale, which is under 10 miles. The UK mainland’s most westerly golf course, Traigh Golf Club, is a nine-hole course 30 miles from Shielside and worth the journey. For hiking, climb Ben Resipol (8.4 miles). Cyclists can rent bikes from the Acharacle Community Company and try the Liddesdale Loop, a scenic 40-mile trail through the countryside.
Try a Loch Shiel cruise, and head to Loch Shiel Viewpoint (29 miles). Then make your way to the Glenfinnan viaduct to see the iconic train featured in Harry Potter. Shielside is 27 miles from another majestic sandy coast at Sanna Bay, and 45 miles from Fort William and the Ben Nevis range. A day trip to the Isle of Mull (47 miles) is also an option during your stay at Shielside.
