The Estate is situated thirty miles west of Ullapool and twelve miles from Poolewe, on Scotland's altogether spectacular north west coast.
Here we offer two excellent cottages, one of which, Inchina, once housed the Estate shepherd. It has now been considerably upgraded, with double glazing and oil central heating, to make a most comfortable holiday home for all seasons of the year.
The cottage is very privately situated in its own fenced rough garden and accessed by a 600m long track (some care required and not suitable for low-slung vehicles). Once you are there though, you find yourself in your own little domain, in a quite dramatic setting where there's a good chance of seeing deer coming down the hill most evenings.
For a house sleeping four, the cottage is remarkably spacious and there is plenty of room for guests to spread out. In the sitting room the open fire forms a cosy, inviting focal point and, with windows on two sides, it is bright and cheerful.
The large kitchen, simply but very adequately appointed, has a dining corner at one end and is made equally snug by its Rayburn stove.
All on one level there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin room, both of which are very spacious and attractively decorated and furnished. The bathroom is large and the space has been capitalised on to have both a bath and a separate shower, with plenty of space still left over. You can well understand why delighted guests return here year after year.
Fly fishing for brown trout is available in the hill loch, just a thirty minute walk away and there is marvellous walking in the surrounding hills.
The famous sub-tropical gardens at Poolewe (12 miles) should not be missed and Gairloch offers a golf course, a selection of hotels and shops and opportunities for boat trips to view the teeming wildlife in the surrounding waters. This beautiful coastline is full of delights and amply repays exploration.
You can enjoy lazy days on the beautiful sandy beaches. Here the beaches are really spectacular, characterised by rocky coves and sands which, derived from the ancient Torridon rocks, are pink in colour. The most famous of these beaches, at Gruinard Bay, has wonderful views across myriad little islands to the Coigach Mountains and An Teallach.
From the beach, a delightful walk leads up to a view point for the waterfall of Eas Dubh a Ghlinne Ghaibh, just one of many such walks in this area. There are plenty of opportunities for cycling too, especially along the flatter coastal roads. A particularly rewarding ride is the one from Gairloch to the lighthouse of Rua Reidh. The scenery along the clifftops is amazing indeed. Gairloch has a pony trekking centre, a golf course and a leisure centre, where climbers can hone their skills on the climbing wall.
