Overview

Built in traditional style and standing in its own enclosed and sloping gardens (with furniture), with a little stream tumbling through it under a quaint humpback bridge - it could have come right out of a fairytale and does indeed look good enough to eat!

Inside you can tell at once that the owners know exactly how to put together a good cottage! The inviting and stylishly furnished sitting room has comfy chairs and a welcoming open fire in the rough stone fireplace which, in shape and substance, harks back to the wee bridge outside. The bright airy sun room has a polished wood floor, chairs which beg to be sat in and inviting doors to the garden beyond.

In fact, with the choice of two such enticing sitting areas, guests may have a hard time deciding where to take up residence. A ‘night room’ and a ‘day room’ may well be the favoured options, while the spacious farmhouse-style dining kitchen also has its attractions.

Upstairs the two bedrooms, a double (with en suite) and a twin, are both very roomy with plenty of storage space and quality furniture. Having two bathrooms, one upstairs and the other downstairs, means that the accommodation is very practical as well. The cottage is double-glazed and heated by oil fired central heating to ensure it cosiness.

Map & Local

Easily accessible from the main A7 Carlisle to Edinburgh trunk road, Wollrig is a perfect base for exploring this delightful area. Even if you don't want to go far, there are lovely walks right from the door.

If you'd rather explore on 4 legs, there is a riding school at the bottom of the hill at Ashkirk. If you'd rather walk in pursuit of a wee white ball, there is an excellent golf course at the Woll, just a mile or so away and plenty more within a 5 mile radius. Fishing is available at Clerklands fly fishery (4 miles) or in the lochs (by permit) round about.

Hawick (8 miles, with all facilities) has a leisure centre and cashmere outlets and Galashiels (11 miles) has plenty of shops and a cinema. The nearest shops and tennis courts are at Selkirk (5 miles).

The area is steeped in history and awash with stately homes, keeps and castles, all open to the public. There are attractive gardens to visit at Dawyck and Kailzie, near the pretty town of Peebles (25 miles), or you can make a break for the coast and the excellent beaches at Coldingham or Berwick. You can also be in Edinburgh in just over an hour's drive or in 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (12.5 miles).

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. The first £25 of electricity INCLUDED with any additional usage payable by meter reading at the end of your stay. Heating is by oil central heating (first £35 INCLUDED with any additional payable at the end of your stay) and open fire (starter pack INCLUDED). Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at an additional charge (2 large, 2 medium or 2 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
