Newly built and cleverly designed with the spectacular lochside location very much in mind, this inviting retreat is ideally placed for taking in some of Skye’s many renowned sights. Dramatic floor to ceiling windows have been used in the sitting room to perfectly frame the loch outside and it can be hard to choose whether to focus on the gorgeous view or the fire dancing in the wood-burning stove.
A sliding door from the sitting room pulls back to reveal the large dining kitchen with its charming beamed ceiling and smart grandfather clock that brings an added touch of elegance. The kitchen is supplemented by the utility room next door where laundry can be neatly tackled out of sight.
Both of the double bedrooms benefit from having their own en suite shower rooms so there is no queuing required in the mornings. Everything has been laid out all on the one level inside and the ramp that leads up to the front door is handy for anyone in the party with mobility issues.
Bruadar is set down a private drive that leads to a spacious parking area which showcases the spectacular surrounding scenery to guests immediately on their arrival. There is access over fields to the shore of Loch Mor less than 200 metres away for those wanting a closer look.
For another wonderful view of Loch Mor, that will be a familiar sight by now, the viewpoint just half a mile away offers a beautiful different perspective from the loch’s north end.
The house is less than 5 minutes’ drive from the start of the walk to one of Skye’s most iconic sights, Neist Point Lighthouse. Standing at 62 feet in height, its impressive flashing white light is so bright (the equivalent of 480,000 candles) that it can be seen from as far as 24 miles away! It takes about half an hour to walk to it and great care must be taken around the cliffs. The views from the lighthouse are breathtaking, with whales and basking sharks to spot, and its westerly position makes it particularly magical at sunset.
A small shop and a café can be found in Glendale (3 miles) and further on at Colbost (5.5 miles) there is the chance to enjoy a very special meal at the famous, Michelin-starred Three Chimneys restaurant.
It is well worthwhile stopping to take in Dunvegan Castle (11 miles) and its 5 acres of wonderful gardens. The castle itself boasts some fascinating architecture with many different styles and buildings that were added over the years. A welcome addition to any visit is to hop onto one of the boat trips that leave from the jetty to see the cute local colony of seals who sun themselves on the loch’s islands.
Further up around Loch Dunvegan, a fabulous coral beach can be found at Claigan (14.5 miles) that can be accessed via a picturesque half hour wander. The white of the coral set against the water makes it look incredibly blue and at very low tide it is possible to walk over to Lampay island.
