Exploring Lochaber & Ardnamurchan
Find out moreLochaber & Ardnamurchan
Heading north from Oban, you come to Lochaber, a stunning area of mountains, glens and sea inlets which witnessed some of the most dramatic events in Scotland’s history. Some of the blackest deeds took place here in Glencoe, which retains its brooding presence even now when it is a mecca for climbers and skiers.

Fort William is the main town, nestled in the shadow of Ben Nevis, another must for climbers, mountain bikers and skiers. To the west is the Road to the Isles winding past Glenfinnan, where Prince Charlie raised his standard for the '45 rebellion, to the silver sands of Arisaig and Morar. The area also encompasses Ardnamurchan, that wild and lovely peninsula stretching to the westernmost point of mainland Britain.

Lovely renovated cottage with the most amazing view. Loved sitting at the huge picture window watching the changing tides and wildlife. Everything was clean and modern. Gorgeous little villages within driving distance to visit along the Moray coast. Would definitely recommend!

We had the most delightful stay at Thornfield. From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed —there’s a comforting, homely energy that invites you to exhale and settle in. The décor is absolutely spot-on: a gentle nod to the age and character of the old property, with carefully chosen touches that speak of thoughtful curation rather than cookie-cutter styling. Original features are beautifully preserved, making each room feel like a page from a well-loved storybook. The location couldn’t be more convenient—just steps from the centre of village life, yet when you retreat to the garden, it feels like another world entirely. It’s a little oasis: birdsong, bees lazily drifting between flowers, and that rare kind of quiet that only comes with being wrapped in nature. Truly a memorable stay. The kind of place that gently asks you to slow down—and rewards you when you do.
