One of the oldest houses in the village dating right back to the early 1700s, it has been brought up-to-date with many charming original features still evident such as the timber beamed ceilings in the kitchen and hall.
Cosy evenings can be spent in front of the cast iron multi-fuel stove in the sitting room (where there is also underfloor heating for extra toastiness) or cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen.
A large conservatory has been added to the back of the cottage and it really is a welcome addition with a modern wood-burning stove at its centre and a formal dining area. There is also further seating from which to look out over the garden and with the French doors open you can really ‘bring the outdoors in’.
The downstairs accommodation also includes two attractive double bedrooms with plenty of built-in storage and a modern shower room. Upstairs off the central landing are a bathroom and two further bedrooms, a twin room and a spacious room with a double bed and single bunk bed over that is ideal for children.
From the seating area on the large deck outside the picturesque garden can be further admired and wildlife lovers will enjoy spotting the red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls, foxes and pheasants that often visit. Parking for up to 3 cars is just by the house and as the garden is not enclosed and leads down to a stream care should be taken, particularly with children.
Just a couple of minutes’ walk along the road is the Kilfinan Hotel’s excellent restaurant that is ideal for a night off from cooking or a pleasant lunch out on the sun terrace in nice weather.
It is just a 20 minute walk down to Kilfinan Bay on the eastern side of Loch Fyne where otters and seals can sometimes be seen.
Kames (7 miles) has a little village shop for everyday supplies and the nearby Kyles of Bute Golf Course offers something a bit different with its hilly moorland course and amazing views of Loch Fyne. There is a small supermarket and bistro in Tighnabruaich (8 miles) and fishing in Loch Fyne itself or in the 3 well-stocked lochs in the hills above Tighnabruaich for brown or rainbow trout.
The gorgeous sandy beach at Kilbride Bay (9 miles), or Ostel Bay as it is known locally, just begs to be explored. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the beach from the parking area but once you arrive the wonderful views out towards the mountains of the Isle of Arran are sure to impress.
At Portavardie (8 miles) the stunning marina attracts sailing enthusiasts and as it also has a spa and leisure centre it offers something for everyone with an indoor swimming pool, outdoor infinity pool, gym, restaurants and cycle hire.
The Cowal Way can be joined from Portavardie, a 57 mile walking route that stretches all the way up the Cowal peninsula to Inveruglas on the west shore of Loch Lomond with some diverse landscapes and scenery to take in along the way.
