Heading Back in Time at Blackcraig Bridgehouse

If you are looking for something a bit different then Blackcraig Bridgehouse is just the place and we have just added it to our portfolio.

This unusual hideaway is actually part of a castle-like bridge that straddles the River Ardle, just 7 miles from Blairgowrie in Perthshire.

The bridge was built as part of the Blackcraig Castle estate back in the 1800s and as such was fashioned in a similarly grand style, complete with notched battlements. It exudes a real feeling of having ‘travelled back in time’ with the adventure beginning right on arrival with a winding stone spiral staircase leading up a little turret and out into a charming courtyard area.

Inside, many of the original features have been retained throughout, with wood flooring and panelling that creates a warm, inviting feeling. There is even an original ‘privy’ in the little study that would once have been emptied directly into the river! Fortunately times have moved on and there is now a modern bathroom.

The cosy kitchen/sitting room has a multi-fuel stove at its heart which is the perfect spot to relax and listen to the river flowing by. The double bedroom has a pretty decorative fireplace and lovely views of the river and there is seating out in the courtyard where there is a sauna hidden away with further beautiful river views.

The countryside surrounding the house offers plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling and there is salmon and trout fishing available on the River Ardle. The nearest village is 3 miles away at Bridge of Cally where there is a grocery shop/PO and a pub.

The lively city of Perth is reachable in under an hour with all the shops, museums, galleries, pubs and restaurants you could wish for. To the north Glenshee Ski Resort is just 40 minutes’ drive away offering skiing/snowboarding in the winter and walking/mountain biking in the summer months.

A week’s stay at Blackcraig Bridgehouse for two people starts at just £295, rising to £465 in peak season.
